Hey friends, welcome! I'm Theodor Cojoianu and serve as a tenured associate professor in sustainable finance at the University of Edinburgh as well as director of research for the Centre for Business, Climate Change and Sustainability

My own journey to understand how to leave the world a bit better than how we found it in the first place got me through a 5 year Masters of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. I used to think that technology is what is missing to truly ensure sustainable development worldwide and solve issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss or pollution. I quickly understood that is not really the case, but rather it is the spatial and time-varying dynamics between technology, finance, policy and human nature that shape these global issues.

So through my subsequent studies in the world's first climate finance MSc at Edinburgh University, DPhil in Geography and the Environment at the University of Oxford and postdoc in sustainable financial data science at University College Dublin and through my current work, I seek to understand these dynamics by applying new and innovative research methods and inform policymakers, investors, businesses and civil society on how to ensure not to borrow from future generations. My work has led to being invited as a Member of the European Commission's Platform on Sustainable Finance, where I advise the Commission on EU sustainable finance policy and on the HM Treasury's Green Technical Advisory Group. I owe a great deal to my very smart and passionate collaborators, mentors and students who make the work incredibly rewarding and fun. However, my biggest joy is beyond data, close to my wife Alet, and our two boys Sebastian and Nicholas. If you find my work of interest, or you think we can learn from each other on how to make the world a little better, please get in touch!
